A national flag of the People's Republic of China was seen hanging at a HDB block in Choa Chu Kang on Aug. 5, and a photo of it was submitted to Stomp.
Here's a photo of the flag:
Police report made by Town Council
The flag was hanging over the parapet at Block 489B, Choa Chu Kang Avenue 5, according to the person who submitted the photo.
Upon learning of this incident, Choa Chu Kang Town Council made a police report, The Straits Times reported.
Yahoo reported that a Town Council spokesperson said the flag has been taken down as of Aug. 7.
The incident is also currently being investigated by the police.
National Emblems (Control of Display) Act
In 2014, a Singaporean man hung the Palestinian flag over the parapet of the HDB block at Sims Drive.
The police advised him to take the flag down, and he complied.
According to the National Emblems (Control of Display) Act, it is an offence to display any flag or national emblem that is not that of Singapore in public.
This is as long as the emblem is visible to the public in any place where the public has access to.
Offenders could be jailed up to six months, fined up to S$500, or both.
There are, however, exceptions for the display of a foreign flag.
For instance, diplomatic representatives of a foreign country may display a foreign flag with authorisation granted by the government.
