Haziq Abdul Aziz, the man who confessed to having gay sex with Malaysian Economic Affairs Minister Azmin Ali, has been expelled from the political party, Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR).

According to Malay Mail, the notice was officially given on July 3 on the grounds that he had broken the rules and regulations of PKR.

Haziq had been the PKR youth chief for Santubong, while Azmin is the party's deputy president.

Accused a party leader of corruption without proof

PKR party disciplinary board chairman Ahmad Kassim elaborated that Haziq had accused a party member without proof, The Star reported.

As per Ahmad:

"The disciplinary board found that he went against the party's code of ethics. Among the reasons given is that he openly accused the party leadership of corruption without giving evidence."

Additionally, Haziq had also accused the party leadership of other issues that were still under police investigation, although Ahmad did not elaborate on what these issues were.

Ahmad's comments were echoed by prime-minister-in-waiting and PKR president Anwar Ibrahim, who stressed that the disciplinary board had been impartial in the process.

Anwar said: "It is impartial and does not side with anyone. That's why it (Haziq being expelled) was decided on the basis of him accusing the party leadership of corruption."

Previously challenged Azmin to sue him for defamation

On June 22, Haziq challenged Azmin to sue him for defamation and make a police report over the matter.

Haziq also stressed that he was victim in the matter: "In fact, I am a victim of the situation. If I am defaming him, he has all the right to sue me in a court of law."

He also stood by his initial confession on June 12, that it was him and Azmin in the video clips, and stated that he was not a liar.

For his part, Azmin has denied that he appeared in the videos, insisting that the videos are part of a plot to assassinate his character and destroy his political career.

CCTV footage from hotel leaked

The same day the termination was announced also saw a new video uploaded to YouTube, in which it purportedly showed a CCTV recording from Four Points by Sheraton Hotel in Sandakan, Sabah, The Malay Mail further reported.

The video appears to have been taken on May 11, according to its time stamp, and showed clips of men resembling Haziq and his political secretary Hilman Idham.

The clip was also interspersed with captions that suggested Haziq was attempting to meet with Azmin and that Hilman was also complicit in the affair.

Subsequently, the clip ended by stating that it was a teaser and added that the faces of the room's guests would eventually be revealed.

Free Malaysia Today (FMT) reported that the hotel has since been informed about the footage and that it is cooperating with local authorities over the matter.

Previously fired from his job

Haziq had previously been fired from his job as Senior Private Secretary to Deputy Minister of Primary Industries(MPI) Shamsul Iskandar on June 18.

At that time, the Ministry had stated that Haziq’s confession was “an admission of a sordid nature”, and added that the video Haziq claimed featured him and Azmin was a violation of its ethics and values.

MPI also disassociated itself completely from Haziq and stressed that it did not tolerate such behaviour from its staff.

Haziq is expected to be charged under Section 377B of the Malaysian Penal Code for engaging in carnal intercourse against the order of nature and Section 292, for distributing obscene material.
