If you follow Malaysian parking news, you might have read about a practice where drivers, or acquaintances of drivers, stand in a parking lot to reserve the space.
In fact, it got so bad that the Malaysian police had to denounce it.
Singapore too
On May 16, 2019, a video on ROADS.sg showed a woman in Singapore holding a parking slot for a car in front, even as another car honked at her, presumably asking her to move.
Here's the video.
In case you can't see it.
The incident took place at Tyrwhitt Road, near Lavender Street.
Here's the place.
It is unclear what took place after the recording ended.
According to an LTA spokesman who spoke to Stomp in 2017 about using items to reserve parking spaces, there might be something that can be done about this.
"Under Section 32A of the Street Works Act, LTA is empowered to enforce against any person(s) for placing articles or things on public streets and five-footways, which may cause obstruction and/or inconvenience to the passage of the public."
Reactions
Most of the comments expressed displeasure at this type of reservation of parking spaces.
With some suggesting different ways to foil their attempts at successfully securing a space.
Others though, didn't think it was such a big issue.
Most found the chope-ing technique a bit out of the norm.
With one particular practice coming to mind.
Which reminded someone of this potential future.
Sad.
