On Jan. 20, 2019, 20-year-old Moey Yun Peng plunged into the Penang Strait in his Mazda SUV after a Toyota Vios collided into Moey's vehicle on the Penang Bridge.
The New Straits Times reported that the Toyota Vios driver is a 21-year-old friend of Moey's.
According to the Seberang Prai Tengah district police chief, the unnamed 21-year-old tested positive for ganja (marijuana) after undergoing a urine test.
Initial investigations revealed that both Moey and the Toyota driver were at a birthday party in Penang. Both were on their way back to the mainland when the accident occured.

After the incident occured, a search and rescue operation was launched to retrieve the submerged Mazda.As of January 21, Sinchew Daily confirmed that the SUV was found with Moey's body trapped inside.
The paper reports that rescuers found Moey holding on to the car door handle, as if he was trying to open it before he died.

On the very same day, a Facebook user by the name of Ah Yeoh (or Rui You) posted a Mandarin eulogy dedicated to Moey.
It appears that Rui You was Moey's classmate in high school.
