S'pore man's "S$50 friendship test" sparks fascinating debate on friendship & money

Sad reacts only.

Money and friendship don't really mix well.

Often times, friendships have been ended due to one party taking advantage of said friendship.

Either by failing to pay on time, or failing to pay at all.

Here's one example by Facebook user Aaron Kwok.

Here is the initial conversation where Kwok's friend, we'll call him Bro, reached out to borrow some money.

While Kwok was also relatively cash-strapped at the moment, he immediately agreed to lend S$50 to his bro, transferring the money within a minute of Bro asking.

Cool.

However when the inevitable time to return the money came along, Bro had some issues with doing so.

Now take note, this was more than a month after Kwok had lent Bro the money.

But there are times when we are cash-strapped, and at the very least, Bro did give a timeframe for the return of Kwok's money.

Kwok was just as understanding.

So two days from November 20 would place the date of return at around November 22.

Here's the next time a conversation between them seemingly took place... on December 5.

But maybe Bro forgot. Kwok is his bro after all, let's see what he has to say about the relative tardiness in returning the S$50.

Silence.

Here is Kwok's post:

And his conclusion.

"$50 > Bro"

Reactions

While it is not clear whether Bro had returned the money after December 6, one thing was clear to many commenters.

This is an oft-repeated issue for many Singaporeans, with the post gaining over 1,200 shares in less than a day.

Some said lending money to friends is never a good idea.

Because that might very well be the last time you see the money, or your friend.

Although one did mention the price of this friendship was luckily not that hefty.

But, others pointed out that really wasn't the issue.

Although some did find a silver lining to the entire thing.

Trust.

But good on Kwok regardless.
