Some things should only be done by the police.

When a crime happens right in front of your eyes, sometimes you might feel the urge to help the victim and that's completely ok if you're chasing after an unarmed snatch thief with no intent to injure the perpetrator.

But running after a possible hit-and-run driver while holding a possible weapon in hand, however, can bring you more harm than glory.

Alleged hit-and-run

While most people would hand a hit-and-run case over to the police, a group of people decided to take matters into their own hands.

On April 7, a video of what is alleged to be a hit-and-run car chase went viral on Facebook and WhatsApp.

Reminiscent of a cheap Fast and Furious scene, the incident, according to netizens, took place near Sultan Plaza.

The ordeal primarily involved three cars - two cars, a black and a white one, belonging to acquaintances of the alleged hit-and-run victim (not revealed in the video) and a black Volkswagen which apparently belongs to the alleged hit-and-run driver.

Filled with vulgarities

The vulgarity-laced video was filmed by an acquaintance of the alleged hit-and-run victim, who had many questions and was very fixated on the car doors.

Here's a transcript of the ordeal, sans the colourful choice of words:

Girl: Who hit who?! Who hit who?!

Guy: Hurry up!

Girl: Get in, everybody get in. Close the door first!

Girl: Who did he hit?

Guy 1: Where is it?

Guy 2: This one, this one!

Guy 1: No, that's Faiz.

Guy 2: The other one, the other one!

Girl: (Close) the door!

Girl: Get in get in!

Chased after a Volkswagen

After identifying the Volkswagen car as the assailant of the alleged hit-and-run, two men emerged from the black car, with one of them holding an object in his hand.

While they did not manage to confront the driver (the car sped off shortly), they managed to hit the car.

If the driver in the video is found to be driving on a road recklessly, or at a speed/manner which is dangerous to the public, he can be fined for an amount not exceeding S$5,000, or imprisoned for a term not exceeding 12 months or both.

Mothership, the police confirmed that a report was lodged and investigations are ongoing.
