Alibaba founder Jack Ma stars with Jet Li & Donnie Yen in upcoming kung fu short film

So it seems Asia's richest man -- Jack Ma -- has now decided that it's time to fulfil his dream of being an actor and a tai chi master.

On Oct. 28, the founder of Chinese internet titan Alibaba announced his new blockbuster project and posted an official poster of his new 20-minute short film with a caption "That night...that dream" on his personal Weibo page.

Big-screen debut

In the poster, Ma is seen posing with A-list celebrities and martial arts experts, Donnie Yen and Jet Li.

Wu Jing, the lead actor of patriotic blockbuster Wolf Warrior II, is also featured in the movie.

Other big names in the movie include champion boxer Zou Shiming, Thai actor Tony Jaa, and retired Mongolian sumo champion Asashoryu Akinori.

The movie, titled Gong Shou Dao (功守道), or The Art of Attack and Defence, will be Ma's big-screen debut.

It is set to be released on Nov. 11, on the same day of the online shopping extravaganza known as 'Singles' Day'. It is one of the most important sales event on Ma's online shopping website, Taobao, though Alibaba said the two events were not linked.

Realising his dreams

Speaking to South China Morning Post, which Ma also owns, he said that the movie is an effort to promote tai chi, a traditional Chinese martial art that Ma has pursued for decades.

In 2013, the visionary entrepreneur cum tai chi enthusiast also started a lifestyle company, Taiji Zen, with Jet Li, and offers tai chi courses online.

What's more, "crazy Ma" is also known to celebrate Alibaba's anniversaries with flamboyant performances, such as gigs with Michael Jackson's songs and punk rock getups with The Lion King theme song.
