PM Lee given the all-clear from full health check-ups at SGH: Vivian Balakrishnan

PM Lee had a vasovagal episode.

Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong has been given the all-clear following his late-night health check-up with doctors at Singapore General Hospital.

This information is courtesy of a Facebook update by Foreign Affairs Minister Vivian Balakrishnan, who himself, as we know, is an ophthalmologist (a specialist eye surgeon), but who also rushed to Finance Minister Heng Swee Keat's aid when he collapsed from a hemorrhagic stroke in May:

Here's what he said:

"Last night, PM Lee Hsien Loong reminded us that we should ask God for the ability to 'count our blessings'.

And the incident last night when PM Lee had a vasovagal episode emphasised this in a most pointed and poignant way.

My initial thought was "Oh no, not again".

And I am so glad it wasn't.

When we rushed up on stage, we found PM Lee fully conscious but having classic symptoms and signs - sweatiness, low heart rate and low blood pressure. The initial light headedness resolved within minutes, and I knew he just wanted to get back on stage to complete his speech. Whilst the initial tests were being done, he was busy re-editing his speech!

And then he went back on and completed his speech. His words took on added significance.

We then went to SGH for more tests - which were all normal before calling it a night around 1:30 AM.

Let us all count our blessings, and continue to do our best. There is still so much more to be done. Hope PM got a good night’s rest. He deserves it!"

By the way, the term "vasovegal episode" is "a disorder that causes a rapid drop in heart rate and blood pressure, resulting in decreased blood flow to the brain and fainting".

So yes, PM Lee is well — he was even able to respond to his Malaysian counterpart's note of concern on Twitter at 2:03am:

Hurray, and phew.
