Abby Choi's mother, Cheung Yin Fa, has filed for a Hong Kong High Court injunction to prevent the murdered socialite's former father-in-law, Kwong Kau, from selling off a property in Hong Kong's upscale Kadoorie Hill neighbourhood.

Kwong Kau is a suspect in Choi's murder, and is currently under arrest.

Mother claimed property was only "held in trust"

Kwong Kay was listed as the owner of the 1,820 sq ft luxury apartment in Kowloon, bought for HK$73 million (S$12.5m) in 2019, as reported by South China Morning Post (SCMP) previously.

According to court documents seen by HK01, Cheung claimed that the property was held in trust for Choi and that Choi was the beneficial owner.

Cheung filed in the capacity of Choi's estate's manager and requested for a court order to ban Kwong Kau from selling, renting or transferring the property without Cheung's permission.

Police believe she was killed because of the property

It was previously reported that the police believe the murder was linked to a dispute between Choi and her former in-laws over the property.

Choi reportedly argued with Kwong Kau after she said she wanted to sell the house and promised to move the family somewhere else, but Kwong Kau disagreed.

Choi went missing on Feb. 21 and was confirmed murdered on Feb. 24 when police found parts of her body.

Some body parts still missing

After a nationwide search for her remaining body parts, her arms and torso are still missing as of Mar. 7.

Choi's ex-husband, Alex Kwong, 28, and his elder brother, Anthony Kwong, 31, were charged with murder.

Kwong Kau, 65, was also charged with murder, while his wife, Jenny Li, 63, was charged with obstruction of justice.

His mistress, only known as Ng "Yung Yung", was also arrested on suspicions of providing the village house where police found Choi's dismembered body parts.

7th suspect arrested in mainland China

Two other suspects, Lam Shun, 41, and a unnamed 29-year-old woman, were also arrested for allegedly attempting to help Alex Kwong escape.

The 29-year-old Hong Kong woman, was arrested in mainland China, and was handed over to the Hong Kong police at a border control point on Mar. 7, reported SCMP.

As of Mar. 7, a total of 7 people were arrested over Choi's murder.
