On Apr. 9, the Ministry of Health announced a record 287 new cases of Covid-19 infections in Singapore. This is the highest daily jump to date.

The total number of cases in Singapore stands at 1,910, as of 12pm on Apr. 9.

Breakdown of numbers

Over 200 of the new cases are linked to foreign workers residing in dormitories.

Three were imported cases, while 46 cases remained unlinked.

As of Apr. 9, 884 patients remain in hospital, and 29 patients are in critical condition in the intensive care unit (ICU).

The number of patients in ICU is unchanged from Apr. 8.

Foreign worker dormitory clusters

There are a growing number of clusters in Singapore involving foreign worker dormitories.

These include S11 Dormitory @ Punggol, the Westlite Toh Guan dormitory and the Toh Guan Dormitory.

At a press conference on Apr. 9, Director of Medical Services Kenneth Mak announced that they have established preliminary links between the Mustafa cluster, the Project Glory construction site, and five foreign worker dormitories (including S11 Dormitory).

As of Apr. 8, The S11 Dormitory @ Punggol (2 Seletar North Link), had a total of 118 confirmed cases linked to the cluster, but Mak said during the press conference that there's "at least 160 cases from this particular dormitory."

It is believed that workers had visited Mustafa and subsequently transmitted the infection to their co-workers at the construction site, or to other residents within their dormitories.

National Development Minister Lawrence Wong also said that some workers continued to work because they exhibited very mild symptoms.
