In the midst of people in Japan fearing for their lives in the face of what was being called "the worst typhoon in 60 years", another much smaller drama was playing out in the rugby world.
Scotland was expected to take on Japan in a must-win rugby match in the Rugby World Cup, but Typhoon Hagibis had threatened to derail the match.
So basically, if Scotland and Japan's match got cancelled, the match will be considered a draw, and both of them will be awarded two points.
Scotland needed to win, and get the full four points, five if they scored three more tries than Japan.
Here's the table.
As you can see, if the match ended up getting cancelled, Japan would go through.
The Scotland rugby team argued that the match could be postponed 24-m hours and to another venue if need be.
They also threatened a multi-million dollar claim for damages if the match was cancelled.
The rugby union called the Scottish Rugby Union's decision "disappointing", especially at a time when there was real and significant threat to public safety owing to what was predicted to be one of the largest and most destructive typhoons to hit Japan since 1958.
The war of words need not have happened though, as the match ultimately went ahead.
After inspecting the stadium, officials decided that the match would go on.
28-21
The match on Oct. 13 didn't go as Scotland might have hoped.
Buoyed by an exuberant home crowd, Japan came out guns blazing.
At the end of the first half, the score was an overwhelming 21-7 to the home side.
What a game. Scotland have a lot to do in the second half.

While second-half scores from WP Nel and Zander Fagerson brought the match somewhat closer, the final result, 28-21, saw Japan making history as the first ever tier-2 rugby team to make it to the World Cup quarterfinals.
