Singaporean actress Eleanor Lee, daughter of veteran host Quan Yifeng, has made it big in China.

Lee has always shared a deep bond with her mum as she was brought up by Quan, who divorced actor Peter Yu.

Lee once dedicated a song to her mother, and even told her to retire, as Lee is making bank and can take care of her now.

In an Instagram post written on Saturday, Oct. 12, Lee revealed further heart-wrenching details of her birth that spoke of her mum's boundless sacrifice for her in more difficult times.

Alone when she was pregnant

Lee said she remembered she did a newspaper interview a few years ago, in which she said a watch was used to exchange for her life.

The watch was gifted to Quan by celebrity hairstylist Addy Lee, who is also Lee's godfather.

Eleanor ended up taking her last name from him.

"My mum was alone while she was carrying me," she said.

"Once, during a big earthquake, my grandmother and uncle were not at home. My mum hugged her belly while crying, and kept praying for everything to be well. Fortunately, nothing bad happened."

Here's the rest of her post, which has been translated.

Pawned her watch for money

"When my mum's water broke, she rode a bike herself to the hospital. But the hospital did not allow her to enter as she did not have any money.

She then went back home and pawned a watch that was gifted to her by her only friend.

With that bit of money, she went back to the hospital for help.

After having difficulties giving birth for a straight 24 hours, she had to have a C-section."

No money to stay in hospital

"Actually, my mum had to rest in the hospital for a few days after I was born, but she immediately stood up and left as she could not pay for her stay in the hospital.

Don't newborn babies have to stay in the hospital for at least a week of observation being getting released?

Later, they found out that I have serious asthma, and had to be hospitalised for a few weeks."

"Mum ran from hospital with me"

"Four days later, my mum ran to the nursery, took off all the heart rate monitoring devices from my body, wrapped me up in a piece of cloth, and ran away while carrying me.

A nurse then ran after her, shouting: Mama, mama! You can't take (the baby) away!

My mum then shouted back: I've no money left!! Do you still want this baby!!

She then left the hospital with me in tears."

"Mum would cry by herself in the bathroom"

"Actually I've been lucky, really lucky in life. And my mum is a great mum, a really great mum.

She did not have any man staying by her side and supporting her.

She looked after the entire family by herself, raised me up, and given me everything that I have now.

Everyone knows there used to be some negative news surrounding her, but nobody chose to ask her about what really happened. Instead, they only blamed her. She has been defeated so many times, yet she managed to pick herself up each time.

She would rather cry alone in the bathroom, than let me see her tears.

In my entire life, I've never seen her cry more than a few times."

"Women, no matter how strong, are still women"

"But women, no matter how strong they are, are still women.

Like me, she loves to cry. She cries whenever she's upset. But she would not let me, nor anyone else, see that.

I'm not by her side now, and so she would secretly go to my room and cry while lying on the bed and smelling my clothes."

"Time for me to take care of you now"

"All these years, she doesn't have many friends, and she's not good at socialising as well.

The words 'Thanks for your hard work' don't seem to be sincere enough.

You've been raising me all this while, and now I just want to say: Mum, please retire. Come over (to China) and be with me. It's time for me to take care of you.

Here's to my 20th birthday! Thank you, mum!"
