A Singaporean man was fined RM8,000 (S$2,627) by the Johor Bahru court after he pleaded guilty of displaying a different car licence plate number, according to Buletin TV3.
The accused, Tan Hock Lai, 44, was brought to court on July 8, 2019 morning for driving a BMW 320i while displaying the licence plate number of a different vehicle, previously reported as belonging to a Hyundai Elantra.
Photos of his deed
Tan was caught in the act at a petrol station at the Second Link Expressway, Gelang Patah, Johor, around 7.35am on May 18.
A picture of him deliberately changing his licence plate of his golden vehicle at a petrol station went viral on social media.
The accused was said to have surrendered himself on July 2 after the Road Transport Department of Malaysia investigated the case.

The Land Transport Authority in Singapore said in late May it was also investigating the BMW driver.
In Singapore, those caught displaying false number plates can face a maximum fine of S$5,000 and jail of up to a year.
