Nowadays, getting a free drink and packet of nuts on a flight is considered a win.

Passengers on a Southwest airlines plane, based in the U.S., got more than they bargained for when they all received a free Nintendo Switch and a copy of Super Mario Maker 2, courtesy of a new partnership between the airline and Nintendo.

On Jul. 18 2019, everyone onboard Southwest Flight 2246 from Dallas to San Diego were surprised with a Nintendo-themed gaming flight, complete with the cabin crew wearing Mario-themed headgear.

The passengers onboard were then given the opportunity to play a custom air-travel themed Super Mario Maker 2 course, called the Southwest Super Sky Challenge.

Each of the passengers onboard were then gifted a Nintendo Switch, as well as a download code for the Super Mario Maker 2 game.

Upon their arrival at San Diego, Mario himself was there to greet the flight and take photos with the passengers.

Passengers will continue to have a chance to win Nintendo merchandise for the rest of the campaign period, between Jul. 15 and Aug. 13.

The sweepstakes will culminate with a grand prize of a roundtrip air travel for the winner and three guests, as well as four Nintendo Switch systems and download codes for the Super Mario Maker 2 game.
