Malaysian Economic Affairs Minister Azmin Ali has claimed he knows who is the mastermind behind the viral video clips allegedly depicting him in an intimate situation with another man.
Mastermind comes from his own party
According to The Malaysian Insight, Azmin made the statement on July 21 night, further alleging that the mastermind was likely from within his own political party, Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR).
However, Azmin declined to reveal the name of the person as the matter was still under police investigation.
The PKR president is Anwar Ibrahim, the prime-minister-in-waiting.
"I cannot reveal the name because it is still under investigation. Let’s wait for the probe to be completed," Azmin said.
"But since day one... I have suspected internal (party) elements."
Azmin states he will continue to work with Anwar
Azmin further added that he would continue to work with Anwar to push PKR's agenda, despite their recent clash.
Previously, on July 16, Anwar said Azmin should resign if investigations conclude that he was indeed one of the men in the video.
In response, Azmin said Anwar should look in the mirror and reflect on his own actions on July 17.
Subsequently, Anwar struck a conciliatory tone, on July 20, at the PKR leaders' retreat.
Anwar said he accepted that Azmin was not involved in the sex clips, The Star reported.
Azmin did not turn up for the retreat, but in an acknowledgement of Anwar's comment, he struck a tone of unity on July 21.
Azmin said: "Anwar and I will continue to cooperate because he is the president and I am his deputy. Do not provoke us. We have been together (fighting for PKR’ struggles) for many decades."
But his loyalty has a limit
However, Azmin also said his loyalty had limits, both The Star and The Malay Mail further reported.
As per Azmin: "Let me face this alone, let me face the person or people whom I have known before, but our loyalty has its limits."
In asserting he was a man of principle, Azmin said that he was loyal to the truth and justice, and further added that he was also loyal to Malaysia Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad.
Azmin said: "I may look calm but do not think my calmness has nothing lurking. Do not insinuate. I will remain loyal to the PM. I will not be led by the nose but by principles."
