Malaysia's Economic Affairs Minister Azmin Ali has clapped back at his party boss, Anwar Ibrahim, by telling him to "look at the man in the mirror", reported Free Malaysia Today.

Azmin is the deputy president of Anwar's party, the People’s Justice Party, or Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR).

Told Anwar to reflect on himself

Talking to reporters at parliament on Wednesday, July 17, Azmin further said that Anwar should reflect on his own actions (muhasabah).

Azmin was responding to Anwar's remarks.

Anwar said Azmin should quit if he was really the man in the viral gay sex videos.

Nine people arrested so far

Nine people had been arrested in relation to the circulation of the video clips, including Haziq Aziz, who claims he is in the videos.

He is the principal private secretary to the Deputy Minister of Primary Industries and Commodities.

Haziq had accused Azmin of being the other man in the videos, but Azmin had vehemently denied the allegations.

Mahathir says it's all political

Commenting on the arrests, Malaysia’s Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad said on July 17 that the release of the videos was a political plot to “prevent somebody from being able to succeed in politics”, The Star reported.

He also said that Azmin does not have to leave, unless proven guilty.

Anwar says Azmin not a threat

Once highly regarded by Anwar, Azmin had grown closer to Mahathir recently, Malay Mail wrote.

Anwar has denied viewing Azmin as a threat to his succession plan.
