On Oct. 2, according to Yahoo! News, two men pleaded guilty to unlawful stalking under the Protection from Harassment Act.
Their crime: putting up degrading photos of a 33-year old man at a shopping centre and in the vicinity of his HDB of residence in Yishun, along with distributing nude images to the man's neighbours.
The first man, Aaron James Ang Jian Hian, a 40-year old IT consultant, has been jailed for six months. The second, Royston Chua Wei Kwang, a 30-year old master sergeant with the military police, has been jailed for five months.
A third man, a Malaysian by the name of Patrick Chong is still at large.
Three days of consecutive harassment
In 2016, from Feb. 9 to Feb. 11, the victim was subjected to three days of harassment by the trio.
On Feb. 9, Chong brought several A4-sized degrading photos of the victim bearing the victim's address, which he gave to Ang and Chua.
Additionally, Chong also brought face masks and hats for them to conceal their identities from police cameras.
The three men then pasted an image outside the victim's flat. Next, they put up more images around the victim's block, including one image on the vending machine at the void deck.
The next day, on Feb. 10, Yahoo! News reported that the trio headed to Northpoint Shopping Centre where they pasted yet more images in the male toilets, lifts and on the walls of two basement levels.
Afterwards, they returned to the victim's block once more where Ang placed additional images outside the victim's flat while Chong pasted images at the lift landing of every floor from level two to level 12.
The victim and his father accordingly removed these images.
Nude photos distributed on the last day of harassment
Subsequently on Feb 11, only Ang and Chong returned for the final round of harassment.
This time, both of them distributed flyers into the mailboxes of the victim's fellow block residents. It contained a nude image of the victim showing his private parts.
What does the law state?
Given the content of the images and photos and the charging of Ang and Chua under the Protection from Harassment Act, their use of such material most likely falls under Section 3(e) of the category "Unlawful Stalking" where stalking is associated with:
"[the] giving or sending material to the victim or a related person, or leaving it where it will be found by, given to or brought to the attention of, the victim or a related person".
Those found guilty will face a maximum of $5,000 and/or imprisonment for a maximum of 12 months.
Lianhe Wanbao confirms victim in question is Kurt Tay
Subsequently, on Oct. 3, wrestler enthusiast Kurt Tay put up a Facebook post containing photos of a Lianhe Wanbao article that identified him as the victim:
According to Lianhe Wanbao, the motive for Ang, Chua and Chong to distribute his nudes was because they were "playful".
