As of Oct. 30, 7pm, Workers' Party MPs Low Thia Khiang, Sylvia Lim and Pritam Singh have raised S$1,130,552.07 in public donations.
Their blog, In Good Faith, provided an update on Oct. 30 on how the bulk of the money was used.
Lawyers paid
A sum of S$1 million was deposited with their lawyers from the firm Tan Rajah & Cheah.
The blog included a picture of the receipt, which you can see below:
The remaining sum of S$130,552.07 will remain in the trio's accounts for future use.
The blog also provided an update on the details of the account movement and balance, which you can see below:
Fundraising appeal suspended
Low, Lim and Pritam are defendants in two lawsuits brought about by Aljunied-Hougang Town Council (AHTC) and Pasir Ris-Punggol Town Council, over S$33.7 million in alleged improper payments.
On Oct. 24, the MPs made a public appeal for funds to deal with their legal fees.
The appeal also mentioned that if they lost the suits and are adjudged to pay large sums of money, they might face bankruptcy if they were unable to pay the amount.
But on Oct. 27, the trio announced that they would suspend their appeal, as they had raised slightly more than S$1 million in just over 60 hours.
According to the blog:
"We are closing the appeal for now, as the amount raised substantially covers the legal fees required at this point in time."
Funds continue to pour in despite calling for a halt to donations
This means that despite the donations appeal being brought to a halt early Saturday morning, the trio still managed to raise more than S$130,000 over the weekend, plus Monday and Tuesday.
The AHTC trial saw the last witness called to the stand on Oct. 30.
The court is now reserving judgment ahead of a verdict, with oral closing submissions expected in March 2019.
