A male graduate student from the National University of Singapore (NUS) has undergone counselling after a female student complained about being sexually harassed by him.

The female student, who is 19, had detailed her experience in a Oct. 1 post shared to the NUSWhispers Facebook page, set up to allow anonymous and confessional posts.

In her post, the student had further alleged that despite the submission of a formal complaint to the Office of Campus Security in March 2018, she had not received any update from the investigating officer.

Alleged undergraduate victim called for disciplinary action and counselling

In the female student's NUSWhispers post, she concluded her account of what happened with the following statement:

"I do hope that by coming forward, action will be taken by the school or faculty in ensuring that he refrains from harassing other undergrads."

Moreover, the student had also called for the alleged harasser to be disciplined and counselled in the hopes that he would stop harassing other victims:

"I hope that through this disciplinary action can be taken and he can receive counselling, to prevent him from continually going after young undergrads."

The graduate student is understood to be in his late-20s.

Allegation of harassment taken seriously by NUS

According to The New Paper, a spokesperson for NUS stated that an investigation was launched immediately.

The spokesperson also said the university views any allegation of harassment involving its students seriously and that it has since updated the female student on the action taken.
