Now, Singapore was never really a place for mac 'n cheese — it started out in England and is now better-known across the U.S., Canada and the UK.
But if you did get the chance to have it growing up or occasionally, chances are you might have had the microwaveable 7-Eleven meal or the instant Kraft version.
While these instant counterparts are convenient and sinfully delicious (thanks to MSG), you can get a fresher alternative at The Big Cheese.
The eatery may be small, but it goes big on its menu with customisable selections — in particular, something called the Make-A-Mac combo (S$6 for small, S$7.50 for regular).
A basic combo lets you choose your pasta, two protein and greens options, two cheese bases and one topping option ranging from truffle oil to Doritos crumbs.
Additional top-ups range in price: from S$0.50 for protein and greens, to S$2 for pulled beef.
Alternatively, if you can't think of the perfect combination for yourself, there are pre-designed options such as The All American (S$8 for small, S$10 for regular), which is mac and cheese with chicken ham and sausage, topped with crispy beef bacon and a sunny-side-up egg.

If all you need is a snack, they have some non-Mac choices like the Grilled Cheese Toasties (S$5) and the Cheesy Potato Skins (S$5).

The best part about The Big Cheese is that it is a place for everyone (unless you're lactose intolerant, sorry) because it uses only halal-certified ingredients and has meat-free options such as the Four Cheese (S$5.50 for small, S$7 for regular).
As the place is tucked in a small corner in Sunshine Plaza, you can dine-in alone or with a few friends. But if you're planning to bring a big group of people, it is best to have your meal packed up in their cute American Chinese food-styled takeaway boxes.
