The passing of a loved one is a sad occasion, even to animals.

A video of a white cat making an appearance at a funeral in Malaysia has gone viral on Facebook, garnering over 85,000 shares in 4 days.

Refused to leave

The cat showed up halfway through Ismail bin Mat's funeral at Masjid Kampung Kelibang cemetery.

Soffuan CZ, grandson of the deceased man, shared that the cat started to circle and scratch his grandfather's grave.

Despite being chased away by Soffuan's relatives numerous times, the stubborn feline was determined to stay.

The peculiar behaviour didn't stop there.

When the ceremony ended and everyone else had left, the cat returned to the grave and rest atop it.

Not the deceased's cat

While Ismail was known to be a cat lover and had more than 7 pet cats, this particular white feline didn't belong to him.

According to the villagers, the cat has always been roaming around the mosque - a place frequented byIsmail.

The family believes that the cat must have remembered him as he would occasionally feed the stray cats at the mosque.

Online reaction

With the video going viral, many observed that the cat seemed to be mishandled by some of the deceased's relatives.

"Why was the cat pinched?"

"Why is the lady handling the cat roughly? She wasn't holding the cat properly, she was dragging it."

Soffuan then published another post explaining that the cat was pinched "endearingly" and they were just trying to console the feline who seemed to be as distraught as they were.
