Some good came out of this accident.

From cat killers to a loansharking Lord Voldemort, Yishun has seen it all.

Well, not quite all.

A cyclist who got hit by a silver Saab near Yishun dam around midnight on Sept. 5, 2017, was helped by a Good Samaritan taxi driver who went the extra mile.

In case you can't see the Facebook post above, here's what it said:

5th Sept 2017 ard 2350hr @ Yishun dam next to pump station, SAAB silver SJG5537E hit me and run while I was riding along the double yellow line. His left side mirror hit my right handle, loss balance and fall on to right lane. Comfort cab jammed brake but run over my bike. I was abt 10m away from his cab.

While waiting for TP to do their part, I will like to ask for help to share this info among friends to find the car.

Thank you

What happened?

According to the post by Sam Ong who was cycling at the time the incident happened, a silver Saab had allegedly intended to overtake on the right lane but was honked at by the taxi and prevented from doing so.

The Saab then hit him, causing Ong to roll forward at least 10 metres towards the right lane.

His bicycle that costs around S$5,500 was hit by the oncoming taxi, which fortunately, stopped in time and avoided hitting Ong.

The cyclist sustained abrasions on his back and limbs. He also suffered muscle strains and lower back pain.

Seeking justice

Determined to find the hit-and-run driver, Ong went to the Yishun North Neighbourhood Police Centre (NPC) to file a report, but was told to seek medical help first from the Accident & Emergency.

He went to Khoo Teck Puat Hospital to seek treatment.

After he was treated, Yishun North NPC referred his case to the Traffic Police Headquarters (TP HQ).

To his dismay, the TP HQ told him that the case could take anywhere between two to three months.

However, an investigation officer (IO) has since been referred to him.

Mothership.sg has reached out to the Singapore Police Force and received confirmation that a police report has been lodged and investigations are ongoing.

Good Samaritan

Although the case is nowhere near resolved, there is a silver lining to Ong' misfortune.

The taxi driver, who is only known as "Mr Koh", helped Ong by sending him to and from Yishun North NPC and the A&E, and accompanied him for three hours at the hospital before sending him home afterwards.

The taxi driver then refused a token of appreciation.
