The SGSecure mobile app slammed with negative reviews on the Apple and Android app stores is seeing a resurgence in ratings.

This was after it was widely reported that some national servicemen had left scathing one-star ratings and outright negative reviews claiming that their superiors "forced" them to download the app or risk punishment.

Overnight, from July 28 to 29, 2017, ratings for the app on Apple and Android app stores recovered slightly.

For example, the app is rated 1.5 stars on the Apple store as of Saturday, July 29. Previously, it was mainly 1-star ratings.

Within 12 hours, it received 21 new ratings, from 80 to 101:

One other significant change is that it also appears that the review section is no longer available for viewing via the App Store.

That was where the scathing one-star reviews were previously posted.

Over at the Android app store, the battle over ratings appears more ferocious.

Overnight from July 28 to July 29, 70 new ratings were registered bringing the initial recovery from 3.0 stars to 2.8 stars:

Proxy ratings battleground

Ratings and review sections online are favoured fighting grounds for factions at loggerheads with one another.

This is where different groups with different agendas carry out petty proxy battles in an attempt to sway public opinion or leave a bad mark.

The Ministry of Defence has since clarified that downloading the SGSecure app is a must for Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) personnel.

The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has also said that it encourages everyone to download the SGSecure app, including Home Team officers and national servicemen.

Previously in June 2017, it was reported that the SGSecure app had been installed on over 550,000 mobile devices since launch on Sept. 24, 2016.
