IKEA could be bringing back its beloved chicken wings in the next 3 months

Its retail director also explained what went wrong.

On May 23, IKEA stopped selling its famed chicken wings due to complaints of quality loss and resultant poor customer satisfaction.

These include allegations that they were serving smaller-sized wings, compromised succulence, and a marked difference in taste.

The company is now working to bring them back within a time frame of two to three months, and pledges not to until they can get its original, well-loved quality right.

In comments shared with Mothership.sg, a spokesperson for the Swedish furniture giant said it is not ruling out a search for a new supplier, noting that it will phase out any food supplier who fails to "offer high quality food that is sustainable and based on high animal welfare, transparent, traceable and affordable".

IKEA Retail director Mike King explained to Lianhe Zaobao that the previous supplier in Malaysia had started providing wings that had fallen below the benchmark weight of 100g per wing. This was due to an increased demand from Brazil in the wake of a tainted meat scandal.

Due to the frying process, the wings shrink even further, resulting in an unfavourably dry texture, Zaobao reported.

We also have been told for sure that prices of the wings will remain unchanged.

Meanwhile, if you're still craving some fried chicken, IKEA is serving crispy chicken tenders with a side of garlic fries in the interim:
