Forum letter writer claims there isn't any discrimination because Pink Dot is allowed in S'pore

So much tolerance!

If you don't know who Ho Lay Ping is, then you haven't been reading enough forum letters on mainstream media outlets, but we'll get back to this later.

Here's what she wrote on Today, today.

Which is a reasonable headline by itself, but there were some head-scratching points within the letter.

The letter dealt with the recent issue of advertising Pink Dot at Cathay Cineleisure mall, and the calls to take it down, as well as to remove the word "freedom to love".

Ho then went on to claim that there isn't any discrimination against homosexuals:

"That the Pink Dot event is allowed to be held shows that discrimination does not exist."

Considering that Pink Dot came about partially due to what some believed was discrimination against the LGBT community, this presents a cyclical conundrum that will almost certainly lead to another letter.

She continued her call of no discrimination with a reminder of the benevolence shown by a conglomerate known as "we":

"We have been most tolerant of it even if we do not agree on this matter."

Their gracious tolerance however might be coming to an end soon though.

"This annual event is increasingly dividing and polarising our society, and if organisers continue to push their agenda aggressively, the stronger the push back will be from conservative forces in our society."

She did make a good point about not negating a person's ability to make decisions just because of their religion.

But the crux of her letter is clear. There is no discrimination towards the LGBT community, and they shouldn't be quick to claim it.

And this isn't the first time she has made this point.

Here's her letter to Straits Times on the horrific Orlando shooting in America that killed 49 people:

If you've forgotten, the Orlando shooting was happened at a gay nightclub.

Despite the location being a very obvious clue to what demographics the shooter was targeting, something even Minister K Shanmugan acknowledged, Ho had this to say.

"I respectfully disagree with the minister that the gay community was likely targeted in the Orlando massacre, since terrorism can happen to anyone, anywhere, regardless of race, religion or sexual orientation."

She also wrote this piece on Rilek1corner:

Nice.
