An otter was found with a hook on its right front paw at Marina Bay as seen from a post by OtterWatch on Apr. 17.
The otter was also spotted limping uncomfortably in this video as it avoided pressing its paw against the sharp hook:
This isn't the first time an otter was seen with a fishing hook stuck to its body.
An angler was spotted baiting a Bishan otter pup intentionally while fishing illegally along Kallang River last year.
Earlier this year, a mother otter was also spotted with a hook sticking out of its fur. In response, PUB told the Straits Times that they would step up surveillance patrols at Marina Bay and urged anglers not to put themselves and other people or animals at risk by fishing in no-fishing areas.
Removing the fishing hook can be tricky business.
The Animal Concerns Research and Education Society (ACRES) has pointed out that capturing the otter to remove the hook might be very stressful for the animal.
In the latest update, OtterWatch also said that it "is extremely difficult to isolate one otter from the romp. It will also be extremely stressful not only to the injured otter, but to the whole romp of otters, when one of them is isolated".
So folks, please be kind and considerate to our friends which share the reservoirs with us.
If you see any illegal fishing, you can call PUB hotline at 1800-2255-782.
