Many of us were probably partying on Friday night, or turning in early from a long work week, when we all woke up to a new dawn: Donald J. Trump is now, really, truly and officially, the President of the United States.
It was inauguration day in the United States as the 70-year-old New York businessman was sworn in as America's 45th President at about 1:30am Saturday, Singapore time.
Here are the first moments and reactions to Donald Trump becoming U.S. President after midnight in Singapore:
1. People immediately compared the size of the crowds attending the ceremony with the, ahem, last President's inauguration:

Trump’s inauguration has been a more subdued ceremony, drawing smaller crowds than Obama's first one in 2009.
2. Trump's first tweets, initially from his personal account and then taking over the official one:
We will follow two simple rules: BUY AMERICAN & HIRE AMERICAN!#InaugurationDay #MAGA??

The forgotten men and women of our country will be forgotten no longer. From this moment on, it’s going to be #AmericaFirst??

He must be relishing these last moments of getting to use his cherished personal account.
This reminds us of something interesting the folks at Slate caught: His initial cover photo for the @POTUS Twitter account wasn't from the inauguration he just had, but one from Obama's in 2009:
His staff, realising they were caught, later changed it twice and settled on a low-resolution shot of himself looking out the window:
Here are his first four tweets on @POTUS:

4. A boring but also important thing that happened: Trump signed executive orders and this will include executive actions to withdraw the US from the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) trade deal.
Trump has confirmed James Mattis as defense secretary and John Kelly as homeland security secretary.
In one of his first executive orders, Trump has signed an executive order to “ease the burdens” of the Affordable Care Act as the administration works toward a “repeal and replace” of the health-care law (also known as "Obamacare").
5. He also led a standing ovation for the Clintons.
Trump: "Honestly, there is nothing more I can say because I've a lot of respect for those two people".
6. Future First Lady Melania Trump gives a parting gift to former First Lady Michelle Obama:

This triggered a rather nowhere-going "investigation" on the part of the New York Times on what was in the box. As well as a wee bit of awkwardness.
And because 7 is a nice number, here's an additional thing the American press discovered:
7. Trump might have taken inspiration for his inauguration speech from this guy:
Here's a piece from The Guardian explaining the resemblance.
And just because we like you, here's a bonus video of his dance with First Lady Melania Trump at his inauguration ball:

If that isn't love, we don't know what love is.
