Local server provider offers to help launch Pokémon Go in S'pore

A glimmer of hope.

Pokémon Go is an augmented-reality game where you catch Pokémon in real life.

There is no official release date for it in Singapore, although the games was out in Japan on July 22, 2016, providing a glimmer of hope for an upcoming release in the rest of Asia soon.

Launched in the western hemisphere on July 6, 2016, it has had a limited release since, probably because the game's developers are focusing on overseas where it has plenty of room for growth throughout America and Europe.

And also probably because the game has so far been plagued by server problems that restricts how fast it can expand worldwide.

It was reported that servers in Australia and the UK repeatedly crashed this month.

One problem, in particular, is that Pokémon Go has been dogged by its over-popularity, where its servers are threatened by overloads caused by too many players logging on at once to hackers trying to take them down.

This results in players not being able to play Pokémon Go.

However, a server provider in Singapore has offered to help launch Pokémon Go here.

This is Vodien's tweet:

Alvin Poh, Vodien’s CEO, said: "It’s quite a bummer seeing the other countries be able to play, and not Singapore. We have the infrastructure and experience hosting large-scale websites, emails and applications, so I think we’re in a pretty good spot to help out Niantic in Singapore."

Niantic is the developer of Pokémon Go and Ingress, which is also a location-based game.

Reports have stated that Pokémon Go draws its map data from Ingress.

Furthermore, Poh added, the location and availability of the Singapore servers and infrastructure can help with serving the load if Pokémon Go launches in other Southeast Asian countries.

Fingers crossed.
