Someone made a LGBT cover of "Home", "We Are Against Pink Dot" members do not appreciate it

Is this home?

Home is the greatest National Day song ever created.

As such, many people who grew up with that classic identify rather closely with it.

And as they grew up, they would naturally want to create things close to their heart.

So here is yet another adaptation right now of the iconic NDP song.

Inspired by a lack of Lesbian Gay Bisexual and Transexual (LGBT) representation in the original video, and other NDP videos, the Facebook page, Dear Straight People, produced a video featuring an openly bisexual artist, and prominent members of the LGBT community along with straight allies.

Here it is.

Cool.

Dissent

Well, some people over at Facebook group, We Are Against Pink Dot (WAAPD) didn't like the updated version of the song.

This was the first post framing the issue.

These were the responses.

With this comment being perhaps the least self-aware comment yet.

Causes

One of the main causes of concern seemed to be a bastardisation of what they considered was a song celebrating Singapore.

Now to make it clear, the updated song didn't change the lyrics to make it incredibly pro-LGBT.

It wasn't like "This is home, LGBT, straight people are scummy."

It was just a video, with the original lyrics, that dealt with the issue of representation by showing a group of Singaporeans that might not get the chance to be featured when the broader definitions of a Singaporean is evoked.

But maybe even that is too much for some.
