The man who was harassed and slapped on the MRT train by an aggressive older man has filed a police report.

Joe DeMarini, 25, who is in Singapore on a working holiday as a TV development producer, was travelling on the North East Line towards Serangoon MRT station with a female friend on Wednesday night, April 19 when the incident happened.

DeMarini recounted the incident in a video post on his Facebook page, which showed the older man getting physical with the American.

After it was published on early Thursday, the video has been viewed more than 1.1 million times within a span of two days.

On Friday, DeMarini went to a police station to report the incident.

In an interview with Yahoo Singapore, he said: “The reason why I went to the police to submit a report is that if he does it again and gets caught, I want them to have more evidence against him. I don’t want someone else to go through what I went through.”

Events leading up to what was captured on video

Details regarding what happened prior to the events caught on video were previously sketchy, but DeMarini clarified that he and his friend boarded the train at Chinatown MRT station and they sat in the middle of a carriage.

Before the incident happened, the older man was reportedly sitting on a priority seat and attempted to speak with the woman next to him.

The older man than walked towards DeMarini after the woman moved away.

The older man then stood in front of him.

According to DeMarini, the older man's first words to him were allegedly, “I like you”.

The man, who claimed to be gay, then told DeMarini: “I’m your friend. I want you to f**k me tonight.”

He then touched DeMarini. After being told off, the man slapped the American.

Other passengers were seen stepping in and standing up for DeMarini in the video.

Despite what had happened to him, DeMarini said he hopes to extend his six-month working stint here: "I’m not going to let it change my views of the people of Singapore. I’m very positive about Singapore."

He has been in Singapore for two months so far.

He also said he received hundreds of messages from strangers who rallied around him and told him it was not his fault.

One message from a Singaporean read, "I would rather have you in Singapore than that uncle," DeMarini said.
