70-year-old man who harassed foreigner on train arrested

Police report on Friday, arrested on same day.

A 70-year-old man has been arrested for causing public nuisance and voluntarily causing hurt.

The man was shown in a video harassing and slapping a foreigner on the MRT train.

The police said on Saturday, April 22, they received a report on Friday about a man repeatedly using offensive language and assaulting a commuter on the train.

The incident was reported to have happened on Wednesday night, April 19, on the train along the North East MRT Line towards Serangoon.

Officers from Ang Mo Kio Division identified the suspect and arrested him along Ang Mo Kio Avenue 1 on Friday at about 10pm, the same day the report was made.

Those convicted of the offence of public nuisance can be fined up to S$1,000. Those convicted of the offence of voluntarily causing hurt can be jailed for up to two years and or fined up to S$5,000.
