It's that time of the year again for the Star Awards.

For those of you who missed the announcement, it will be held at Marina Bay Sands on Apr. 9.

With it comes what's arguably the most hotly contested awards category — the Top 10 Most Popular Male and Female Artistes respectively.

How it works

Here's a quick recap for those who don't know how this award category works: a shortlist of 20 males and females respectively (making up a total of 40 nominees) is released about a month before the awards show.

This year's bumper crop of 75 nominees — 36 female and 39 male — is almost double the usual shortlist of 40 nominees.

Anyone who has over five years of experience in screen acting and/or screen/audio hosting as of Jan. 1, 2022, and fulfils at least one of these conditions is eligible:

• Had a lead role or main host in at least one eligible programme
• Had a supporting role or was an episodic host in at least three eligible programmes
• Appeared in a total of 30 episodes across all eligible programmes

The winners from each category will be determined by online voting, along with a popularity survey.

After collecting 10 of these Top 10 trophies, celebs are crowned All-Time Favourite Artistes and no longer qualify for this award category.
