Clementi West death: Brother has charge amended to murder of 19-year-old sister

If convicted of murder, offenders can either face the death penalty or be jailed for life and caned.

A 29-year-old man, Huang Bocan, accused of grievously hurting his teenage sister, Huang Baoying, 19, had his charges amended.

Murder charges

The two accomplices, Chee Mei Wan, 41, and Lim Peng Tiong, 62, also had their charges amended.

According to The Straits Times, the trio were previously charged with voluntarily causing grievous hurt to Baoying.

From court documents seen by Mothership, Bocan, Chee, and Lim are now accused of murdering Baoying.

If convicted of murder, offenders can either face the death penalty or be jailed for life and caned.

However, Chee and Lim cannot be caned as Chee is a woman, while Lim is over 50.

What happened

The police were alerted on Wednesday, May 5, at about 6.30am, to a case of unnatural death at a residential unit at Block 602 Clementi West Street 1.

Officers arrived at the unit and found Baoying lying motionless in the unit. She was pronounced dead at scene.

The victim's biological brother Bocan was arrested.

On May 6, Bocan was accused of voluntarily and grievously hitting Baoying with a wooden pole on Tuesday, May 4, at about 11pm.

He is represented by lawyers Josephus Tan and Cory Wong from Invictus Law Corporation.

On May 12, Chee and Lim were charged with voluntarily causing grievous hurt to Baoying by hitting her with a wooden pole.

The relationship between Bocan, Chee, Lim and the deceased was not specified in the court documents.
