Things ended badly for a man in Singapore who went to meet his girlfriend's former boyfriend.

The meeting on Wednesday evening, May 27, at Block 106 Lorong 1 Toa Payoh landed the 20-year-old in hospital with serious injuries.

The meeting with the man's girlfriend's former boyfriend ended in an ambush, as the victim was allegedly attacked by a group of four to five men.

The victim was bleeding profusely from multiple slash wounds when he returned home 15 minutes after stepping out, which shocked his family.

He had initially told them he was going out to buy drinks.

The victim's older brother, 24, told Shin Min Daily News that his family later found out he had agreed to meet his girlfriend's ex-lover at a void deck.

The victim realised the meeting was an ambush when four to five men attacked him, the brother said.

The victim's father told Lianhe Wanbao his son's wrist bone was exposed after he sustained a deep cut on his left arm.

His son was also slashed on the forehead.

Police presence

At least eight police vehicles were at the scene on May 28.

Two dogs from the police's K-9 unit were also present.

A trail of blood stretching 20 to 30 metres was left along the void deck at Block 106 and at the staircase on the second floor, Wanbao reported.

The victim's father told Wanbao: "My son was knocking on the door, anxiously asking me to open it."

"Initially, he did not want to tell me how he got hurt."

The father claimed his son's girlfriend's ex-lover had just been released from prison.

The victim and the other man had run-ins with each other over the woman, the victim's brother told Shin Min.

Residents in the area said a group of four to five people were shouting along the covered walkway.

The police said on May 28 they were alerted to a case of voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapon at about 6pm on Wednesday.

A 20-year-old man was conveyed conscious to Tan Tock Seng Hospital.

The police also said that preliminary investigations indicate the victim knew one of his assailants.

Investigations are ongoing.

The victim, according to Chinese media, is believed to be living on the eighth floor of the Toa Payoh block of flats.

He had gone downstairs to meet the other men.

This circuit breaker period has seen a slew of violent crime committed, including a murder in Punggol and a fight involving weapons in Chinatown.
