Female healthcare volunteer confirmed with Covid-19

A 52-year-old female Singapore citizen volunteering at Singapore EXPO community isolation facility is one of the confirmed cases reported on Monday as well, and is currently warded at the National Centre for Infectious Diseases (NCID).

She is identified as Case 18,669, and is a healthcare volunteer. She had no recent travel history to affected countries or regions.

Previously on May 2, a 34-year-old female Singapore citizen who was deployed at the EXPO was also reported to have contracted Covid-19.

The woman was employed as a nurse by the Health Promotion Board, and like with this latest case, had no recent travel history to affected countries or regions.

She did not go to work since the onset of her symptoms.

Expo designated as community isolation facility

The Singapore Expo is designated as the second community isolation facility meant to house recovering Covid-19 patients, but who might still be infectious or show milder symptoms.

Patients at this facility are still being isolated, and do continue to receive medical care.

However, these patients are clinically well enough to be discharged from hospitals even though they still test positive for Covid-19, and "do not generally require significant medical care".

Each hall in the facility has a capacity of about 1,800 persons.
