A 68-year-old male Singaporean has died from complications due to Covid-19 on May 11, 2020.

This is the 21st death in Singapore related to the virus.

Confirmed to have Covid-19 on Apr. 5

According to the Ministry of Health (MOH), the man, who is Case 1,305, was confirmed to have Covid-19 infection on Apr. 5, and had a history of hypertension and hyperlipidaemia.

He was a linked case to two of his relatives, cases 1,660 — a 65-year-old woman, and 3,984, a seven-year-old boy.

The National University Hospital has reached out to his family and is extending assistance to them.

Separately, a 53-year-old Indian national, Case 23,550, passed away on May 9.

He was sent to the emergency department at Sengkang General Hospital after suffering a cardiac arrest on May 9.

The man tested positive for Covid-19 on May 10, after his death.

According to MOH, the cause of death is ruptured myocardial infarction due to coronary thrombosis.

Recent deaths

On May 6, a 97-year-old female Singaporean (Case 1414) and a 73-year-old male Singaporean (Case 1528) became the 19th and 20th patients to die due to complications arising from Covid-19 infection.

Case 1,414 was confirmed to have Covid-19 infection on Apr. 7, and had a history of hypertension.

Similarly, Case 1,528 was also confirmed to have Covid-19 infection on Apr. 7, and had a history of hypertension, hyperlipidaemia and diabetes mellitus.

While Singapore has 20 recorded Covid-19-linked deaths, an additional six Covid-19 patients were reported to have died from causes other than complications from their Covid-19 infection.

This is likely related to the World Health Organisation (WHO)'s guidelines on classifying Covid-19 as a cause of death.
