Children can get infected too.

Out of the record 728 new Covid-19 infection cases in Singapore on April 16, 2020, two are Singaporean children.

Both were confirmed on April 15 and announced on April 16 and are warded at KK Women's and Children's Hospital.

Case details

Case 3984

Case 3984 is a seven-year-old boy, who is a local link to family members, Case 1305 and Case 1660.

Case 1305 is a Singaporean man, 67, confirmed on April 5, while Case 1660 is a Singaporean woman, 65, confirmed on April 8.

Case 3985

Case 3985 is a 13-year-old girl, who is a local link to family member Case 2105, a 36-year-old Singaporean woman confirmed on April 10.

Covid-19 infection among the young in Singapore

Covid-19 infections among the young are rare, but as these instances show, they can still happen usually as a result of prolonged exposure, such as being infected by a family member residing in the same household.

Currently, there are 112 confirmed cases involving those aged between one to 20 years old in Singapore.

To break down the numbers further, there are 11 females and 17 males between one and 10 years old range.

And there are 31 females and 53 males between ages 11 and 20 years old.

It was also previously reported that the risk of young people in Singapore getting infected in schools was low.

The addition of 728 new cases in one day has now brought the total number of cases in Singapore to 4,427.
