More than 7,000 written advisories were issued to those who have breached the enhanced safe distancing measures on April 7, the first day of the Covid-19 circuit breaker (CCB), the Ministry of the Environment and Water Resources (MEWR) said.

Over 7,000 advisories issued on Day 1 of CCB

Most of these advisories were issued at hawker centres and markets.

These written advisories given to members of the public at crowded markets reminded them to keep a safe distance when queuing or making payment by following the floor markings.

One stallholder was also issued an advisory for selling drinks intended for dine-in at a hawker centre.

On the first day, more than 2,000 Safe Distancing and SG Clean Ambassadors, and Enforcement Officers (EOs) were deployed to HDB estates across Singapore.

These ambassadors and EOs will cover premises such as town centres, hawker centres, coffee shops, transport nodes, parks, and community clubs and centres.

Members of the public are strongly reminded that they must comply with the elevated safe distancing measures imposed from now to May 4.

Non-compliance is an offence

When one is caught breaching these enhanced safe distancing measures, a written advisory will be issued immediately.

If one breaches or refuses to comply with the measures, the EO will take down the personal particulars and issue a written stern warning.

The police may also be contacted for follow-up action.

Under the Covid-19 Temporary Measures Bill passed in Parliament on April 7, first-time offenders can face a fine of up to S$10,000, imprisonment of up to six months, or both.

Second or subsequent offences may attract a fine of up to S$20,000, imprisonment of up to 12 months, or both.
