A video of two youths spitting over a railing in a mall went viral recently.
Laughing and spitting
The video was posted to several Facebook pages like Tiagong and Sg-share together, and described the youth as "young punks" or YP.
In it, two young men can be seen leaning over a railing in what appears to be a shopping mall.
One of the boys in a black shirt leans over.
The other boy smacks the back of his head, and the former spits onto the lower floors.
It is unclear if the boy in a white shirt spat too.
In the background, a girl, likely to be the one behind the camera, can be heard laughing loudly at the action.
It is uncertain if the shopping mall is located in Singapore, but the video has been shared multiple times by Singapore-centric Facebook pages to convey the impression that it could have been.
The video has since received much backlash online, with many criticising the youth for their actions.
Issues of hygiene
As awareness of hygiene and sanitation have been ramped up since the start of the Covid-19 outbreak, incidents such as these are being taken more seriously.
Lifts seem to be common targets for these acts of mischief.
Recently, a photo of what appeared to be spit on the lift buttons at Rumbia LRT circulated on social media.
The perpetrators, three teenagers, were taken in shortly after by the police for investigation.
In two more separate incidents, two teenagers were investigated by police for allegedly spitting on lift buttons in Ang Mo Kio and Punggol.
In a rather disgusting turn, a woman was also caught on CCTV allegedly smearing blood on lift buttons at Yishun.
Nee Soon Town Council stated that they would take action if the incidents continued.
