A Taiwanese tourist was recently fined for wearing a 'string' bikini while holidaying at Boracay.

The bikini, according to Filipino police, was "literally a string".

Photos of the lady in the bikini circulated from Oct. 9, and subsequently caught the attention of the Boracay Inter-Agency Rehabilitation Management Group.

After the island's police was directed to the matter, the tourist and her boyfriend were brought to the police station the day after.

Were apparently unaware that people were taking photos

According to a Apple Daily report, the lady had reportedly worn a similar bikini to the hotel pool on Oct. 10. Hotel staff had apparently told them that she should be mindful of her dressing because there were children around.

This took place on the second day of their vacation.

That day (Oct. 10), when they were stopped by the police, her boyfriend stated that they did not know what to do and did not understand that they had done wrong.

They claimed to be unaware that people were taking photos.

He blamed the media for blowing things up by publicising the photos without censoring their identities, and felt that they were being unfairly penalised since they should be considered victims instead.

Urged people to stop sharing her photos

In the report, the man expressed his hopes that the world would stop blaming his girlfriend.

He also urged the public to refrain from sharing her photos and personal details.

"She has been suffering from a lot of stress due to the scrutiny," he added.
