What is high-octane techno music without high-octane visuals?

Definitely not this 84-second video because it has both:

It is from Sg Stupiak e-Scooters.

Singapore has officially hit peak PMD culture as this video attests.

Any time pulsating music can be put over various footage spliced together from various sources capturing the essence of a phenomenon, we know we have a winner.

Mobility is getting cheaper in Singapore

So, what is this personal mobility device issue all about in a nutshell?

Mobility can be a dangerous thing in Singapore -- especially in the hands of people who think they know better.

Over the last decade, the cost of moving one person around Singapore has become cheaper per km -- in terms of money and time.

For just a couple of hundred dollars per device, PMD riders can travel a few thousand kilometres on multiple charges of the battery before the wheels of these devices fall out or they catch fire and explode.

This is the result of advances in battery tech making them smaller and components getting cheaper to manufacture and assemble in China, causing Singapore to be awash with PMDs.

Even at 15kmh, they are a major boon compared to effortful walking for the time-starved.

You can be forgiven if you weren't even aware when the Segway made its debut in 2001 as it promised to revolutionise the way pedestrians moved around.

It didn't.

The cheap China-made PMDs didn't even announce their arrival five years ago, but went on to take over all pedestrian and motorist spaces.

Enjoy the video.
