On Oct. 11, a Singaporean man was arrested for the gruesome murder of his wife and stepson in Melaka, which resulted in him chopping up their body parts and placing their heads on the roof.

Charged in Malaysian court

Malaysia's Berita Harian reported that on Thursday (Oct. 24) morning, Shahrul Nizam Zuraimy, 31, was charged in the magistrate's court in Melaka for the murders of his 27-year-old wife, Norfazera Bidin and his 11-year-old stepson, Muhammad Iman Ashraf Abdullah.

The murders allegedly happened in a house in Taman Merdeka Jaya, Batu Berendam, Melaka.

However, no plea was recorded by the accused, according to New Straits Times.

Could face death sentence

According to Berita Harian, defendants who are not represented by lawyers will be charged in accordance to Section 302 of Malaysia's Penal Code.

If found guilty, the accused could face a mandatory death sentence.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Anis Najwa Nazari suggested no bail to be offered to the accused.

Shahrul will return to court on Dec. 16 for the next hearing, pending autopsy reports.

Eight body parts discovered

Melaka police said on Oct. 10 that a worker who was cutting grass found eight dismembered body parts and lodged a police report.

Shahrul was arrested by Malaysian police on Oct. 11.

How it allegedly happened

It was later alleged that Shahrul and his wife were in a heated argument when he attacked her with a kitchen knife, before using a parang to chop her head off.

He also allegedly killed his stepson after the boy witnessed the event.

He chopped up the bodies of both mother and son.

The victims' heads were later found on the roof of the house.
