The Indonesian national team conceded a late goal in the seventh minute of injury time.

Indonesia, playing at home, were downed 2-3.

Syed Saddiq stuck in stadium

Malaysia's Youth and Sports Minister Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman was among those trapped in the stadium after the match.

Syed Saddiq's press secretary told a WhatsApp group for journalists that both the minister and himself were unable to leave the stadium after the match ended, but were safe.

Syed Saddiq also said via Instagram that several Indonesian football fans tried to barge into the area reserved for Malaysian fans.

He said the Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) will lodge an official complaint with world governing body FIFA.

“I will also lodge an official report with the Indonesian government and my counterpart,” he said in an Instagram post, adding he will fight for justice for Malaysians.

“We will not tolerate gangsterism in any event. The safety of the Malaysian players and fans are my priority.”

Malaysian fans allegedly attacked

According to a Facebook post by Harimau Malaya, Malaysian fans were pelted with stones and provoked by angry Indonesian fans.

“Malaysian fans are being attacked,” it claimed.

Earlier on, unruly Indonesian fans threw missiles onto the pitch, which led the match to be stopped when the score was tied 2-2.

Late goal winner

Mohamadou Sumareh was the hero for Malaysia.

He scored the first goal in the 37th minute and the match-winner in the 97th minute.

Syafiq Ahmad, meanwhile, scored Malaysia’s second goal in the 66th minute.

Indonesia’s Alberto Goncalves scored in the 12th and 39th minute.
