Thomas Tan was satisfying his late-night supper craving over at Fei Siong Jurong West on August 4, 2019 at about 3.45am.

There, he appears to have ordered minced meat noodles.

Here is what that usually looks like.

The mushrooms kinda can pass off as legless cockroaches, or vice versa.

Unfortunately for Tan, it was no trick of the light, or oddly shaped mushroom.

It was very much an above-average sized cockroach.

In case you can't see it.

Yikes.

In response to Mothership's queries, here is how Tan described the unpleasant experience.

"I was trying to pick out mushroom from my packet of minced meat noodle (you know mushrooms are stuck at the corner of the packet as always) which I'd brought home to eat but instead of mushroom, I picked out an intact cockroach."

Tan understandably puked immediately once he found the cockroach. After which, he went back to the stall to inform them of the unwanted ingredient.

Tan also called the police just in case there was to be any trouble, the police then referred the case to the Singapore Food Agency.

Some of Tan's friends also acknowledged the visual trickery of the mushroom/cockroach hybrid.

Tan himself was actually quite understanding of the whole situation, especially of how this entire situation wasn't the stall assistants fault at all.

"We didn't blame the stall assistant, after all, he was just doing his job, but we are just sharing so that other consumers are more aware.

We suspect that the cockroach was probably drowned in the slow cooker which every fishball noodle stall has for their bak chor mee. This could be a lapse which all other fishball noodles stalls make. So I would like to reiterate it is for awareness."

We have reached out to Fei Siong for further comment.
