The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) has issued a travel advisory advising Singaporeans to defer non-essential travel to Hong Kong.

This is due to the large scale protests that have been taking place in Hong Kong since June 2019.

Recent protests had also affected flights out of Hong Kong International Airport on Aug. 12 and 13, causing many flight cancellations and delays.

Those in HK should take necessary precautions

Singaporeans in Hong Kong are advised to take necessary precautions to ensure their personal safety.

“There have been large-scale protests taking place across Hong Kong since June 2019 which have become increasingly unpredictable. These protests can take place with little or no notice and could turn violent,” MFA said.

Singaporeans who are already there should take all necessary precautions to ensure personal safety MFA also said.

They are encouraged to eRegister with MFA at https://eregister.mfa.gov.sg/, in order to enable the ministry to contact them if the need arises.

Those that require consular assistance can contact the Singapore Consulate-General in Hong Kong for help.

Singaporeans are also advised to monitor developments through the news, and to heed the instructions of local authorities.
