Najib, the United Malays National Organisation (Umno) leader, received praise for being magnanimous in remembering his political nemesis' milestone.
Busy 94th birthday for Mahathir
Mahathir marked his 94th birthday with a full schedule in parliament -- just 62 days after his administration celebrated its first anniversary.
In the morning, he answered questions in the Dewan Rakyat (lower house of parliament) during the Prime Minister’s Question Time.
He then held a briefing with opposition MPs on the government’s bill to lower the voting age from 21 to 18, which will allow 18-year-olds to qualify for election contest besides being automatically registered as a voter once they hit that age.
Reporters covering parliament reportedly sung “Happy Birthday” to the world’s oldest serving prime minister, after Mahathir’s joint press conference with the opposition MPs.
