Yanxi Palace's heartthrob Lawrence Wong will take over the late Aloysius Pang to play the male lead in Channel 8's latest romantic drama, My One In A Million.

The recast was announced on Monday, Feb. 11.

Return to Singapore scene

Wong will star alongside local actress Carrie Wong and actor James Seah.

This marks the 30-year-old's return back to Singapore after upping sticks to go to China to make a name for himself.

The Beijing-based actor was previously in 118.

Wong gained instant fame as a result of Story of Yanxi Palace.

The 70-episode series has raked up billions of views globally.

Giving back to Singapore

Wong shared how he felt about this new role with Channel 8: "I'm a Singaporean, and even though I have been pursuing my career overseas, when there is a good script and role, I am still willing to come back and partake in it."

He also said he was "more than willing to help" as a result of the tragic circumstances of Pang's passing in New Zealand while on reservist training in January 2019.

Wong added that his schedule fits perfectly with the shoot, and that this was his way of giving back: "This is my own way of contributing to and supporting the local entertainment scene."

Wong said he plays a serious and attractive man in the new show who gets nervous and develops a body odour when he meets a girl he likes.
