Thai duo Wongnai were in Singapore to slap tables recently as part of their resounding endorsement of local cuisine.
Their latest food review video out on Jan. 28 saw the pair end up at Newton Food Centre to try Alliance Seafood.
So, how did the duo end up at that particular hawker centre out of so many in Singapore?
It can be attributed to the publicity blitz enjoyed by Newton Food Centre after the Crazy Rich Asians movie came out, showcasing the food and vibe there.
Alliance Seafood
The shaggy-looking lanky guy, who is accompanied by the Mo Salah/ Childish Gambino lookalike, introduced one particular stall, Alliance Seafood, which has been in operation for three decades, by saying:
"Choosing only meaty Sri Lankan crabs that are sexier than my wife at home."
Previously, the Wongnai duo featured Kin Moo, a Thai noodle shop at Tan Quee Lan Street in the Bugis area that also serves a variety of Thai dishes.
STB tie-up
As to how and why the Wongnai duo ended up on our shores is not surprising either.
The Wongnai duo are here at the behest of the Singapore Tourism Board.
Wongnai is an app widely used in Thailand and is based on user-generated reviews.
The tie-up with STB is to promote Singapore food to Thais in a deal that was closed in June 2018.
