On Jan. 28, an Ang Mo Kio resident discovered some 30 to 40 unopened letters and a parcel dumped inside a rubbish bin:
The incident, once again, sparked outrage among many people in Singapore.
SingPost responds
In response to the incident, SingPost replied the resident on Jan. 29 just after midnight seeking more information regarding the location of the dumped mail.
Several hours later at 7.22am, SingPost publicly addressed the issue on its Facebook page.
SingPost wrote:
SingPost is aware that images of letters allegedly discarded in a bin are circulating online. Based on the addresses on the letters, a team was immediately dispatched to comb the area overnight.
The bin was located and the team expanded its search to every bin within the vicinity, with no success of locating the letters. Letter boxes were also opened to check if these letters had been delivered to affected recipients.
Concurrently, our customer service team has gotten in touch with the Facebook user but has not received a reply as it was late in the night. We are also conducting interviews with the postman on duty.
Our main priority currently is to locate the letters and have them delivered to intended recipients.
Please bear with us as we continue to investigate this and will provide an update as soon as possible.
Did not managed to locate dumped mail
Despite sending a team down to Ang Mo Kio to retrieve the dumped mail, SingPost apparently came up empty handed.
It appears the SingPost mail retrieval team failed to locate the dumped mail.
A follow-up exchange on the SingPost Facebook post suggested so:
SingPost apologised twice
This latest incident is a another big letdown as SingPost had just apologised a second time four days earlier on Jan. 25 that it was remaking itself and doing things better after receiving feedback from the public.
Mail dumping
This latest incident has sparked outrage among Singaporeans who have for years been providing feedback to SingPost about inexplicably losing mail.
Less than one year ago, in February 2018, a video had surfaced showing a man confronting a SingPost postman for throwing vast amounts of unopened mail into the rubbish bin.
The postman said in the video he could not cope with the number of deliveries and resorted to throwing mail away.
The postman was fired.
SingPost apologised for shoddy service
On Jan. 14, SingPost apologised to the whole of Singapore for its terrible service standards but was called out for its lack of sincerity:
Nee Soon GRC MP Lee Bee Wah even visited the SingPost distribution centre in Woodlands to boost staff morale, a visit that was shared on Jan. 24:
