Singapore Pools didn't change the winning number for Oct. 21 because of course they didn't

Why would they?

Singapore Pools is a state-owned lottery subsidiary company in Singapore.

They are 100 per cent owned by the Tote Board which reports to the Ministry of Finance. Their betting products and services are regulated by the Ministry of Home Affairs and the Ministry of Social and Family Development.

That's quite a legitimate pedigree.

Scandal?

Yet somehow on October 21, this Facebook post appeared.

In case you can't see it, here's the picture they showed.

With this caption:

"Did I see wrongly or something is wrong with Singapore pool? Didn’t I see first prize was 8383 ? Suddenly change 4949 . Wow, they got the right change jiu change.

#winliaolor #canmehlikethat #heardsaythisisnotthefirsttime ??‍♀️"

Which implied that Singapore Pools somehow changed the winning numbers.

The post immediately went viral, with more than 1,400 shares in less than three hours.

Here are some of the theories as to why Singapore Pools allegedly changed the numbers.

But the general gist was that this was some insidious plot to save Singapore Pools from paying out the incredible amount of people who won from betting 8383.

Yeah, no scandal

Well, the answer is really quite simple: the app the lady used got it wrong.

The app she used looks like it's called "Live 4D":

Which has over 1 million downloads, so you can understand why she might have thought it was an official app.

You might be thinking, well, it's still Singapore Pools' fault that the wrong number was placed in the app.

Not quite.

See, Live 4D has nothing to do with Singapore Pools, they say so themselves on their About section.

Yup, it was developed independent of any involvement from Singapore Pools, and they even gave a disclaimer that their results might be inaccurate sometimes.

In fact, if you take a look at the accurate results over on Singapore Pools' website, you can kind of see where it went awry.

8383 could have been a mis-numbering of the October 20 draw's second prize number 3883.

In case you are looking for the official app, here it is.

If you can't seem to find it on the Google play store, it's because it isn't there. Yup, you have to go on Singapore Pools, and follow the instructions to download it.

Which will then look like this.

So yeah, congrats to anyone who bought 4949.
